San Marcos wine is more than just a beverage.
The fine art of winemaking is a craft that has been in the history of mankind for over eight thousand years – the first wine made from fermented grapes was recorded in Georgia (the European country, not the state!). For people that truly appreciate this beverage, wine tasting represents a hobby that follows up the entire process with passion.
From the ripening of the grapes, to the juicing phase and the placement of the mixture in the wooden casks for fermentation, wine presents a magical attraction that enchants all your senses.
Where do the names of different wines come from?
While in the past, the name of a wine was usually the name of the region where the owner had the vineyard, nowadays most wines receive their names from the type of grapes they are distilled from as well. In addition, another important component of the names chosen for the San Marcos wines comes from their flavor. The reason for this is that what ultimately makes people remember a certain taste they liked is not the opinion they had when they sipped it, but rather its name. Lastly, the color of the wine, which is often used in their names, is a good indicator regarding the age of a certain wine.
For instance, if you were to see a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, you will notice that it contains both a classic European and a non-European standard name. While Napa Valley is a well known region in the United States, the Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most known grape varieties in the world. As the name indicates, the grapes and the wine are colored in a certain tone of red. However, it is important to note that the color of the wines changes in accordance to time and thus, it tends to have a golden shade as it gets older.
The bridge between an amateur and expert wine taster
Most consumers do not have to participate in wine tasting meetings to discover the taste and the smell of different types of wine in order to decide the most appropriate one for a certain event. However, they are able to make their decisions based on the descriptions offered by famous wine connoisseurs. Since almost all the smells and flavors are usually described in terms of plants, fruits or spices, you can imagine how easy it is to pick the right wine for the occasion nowadays. The reason why the experts can detect a smell of raspberries, while you can just say ‘fruit’ is because they have trained their smell and taste senses for years.
However, it is important to note that if you want to be able to recognize, evaluate and appreciate wines, all you need to do is take a tour of a vineyard and participate in wine tasting gatherings. The wine tasting tours at the San Marcos vineyard are an ideal way to get away from all your metropolitan worries. What better way to take some time off and relax than in the company of a San Marcos wine and the people that you are fond of?
